Three Sisters Bike Shop
Along with many other cities, the city of Pittsburgh is pushing for sustainable solutions to be incorporated into peoples everyday lives whether it be through the buildings they occupy or the ways they get to and from work. The Three Sisters Bike Shop aims to tackle both of these targets creating a building that can function efficiently and provide a space for people to shop for a method of transportation that is less harmful to the environment than any other automobile - a bike.
The Three Sisters Bike Shop was designed with transition in mind. It seeks to not only allow for optimum functionality as a bike shop, but also to become a motivator toward the usage of bikes as a main mode of transportation for the residents of Pittsburgh. With its site being located in such a way that on the northern side is a residential area adjacent to a busy road, and on its south side, the natural preserve of Frick Park, it truly allows the site to become a threshold between the built and natural environment. That is exactly what the bike shop accomplishes.
